100 years of Citroën

Family party celebrating 100 years of Citroën

On 10, 11, 12 August 2018

Who does not know the Duck, the Goddess or the H-van? These three vehicles and more celebrate the cars of Citroën and they are all  inextricably linked with street life in the 1950s,1960s and 1970s from within France, as well as other European countries.

As the economy developed, cars became more affordable & readily available to ‘the ordinary man’, and this gave people a lot of freedom. Overnight travel to far away places and the ability to explore their environment were all possible, and a lot easier than several hours of cycling. Of course, commuting to work was easier too.

In August 2016 we hosted ICCCR 2016 in De Steeg Netherlands , at Castle Middachten. It showed once again how much interest there is in “our” brand, whether they have a car or not, and the diversity of the Citröen, bringing a selection of Citröen vehicles from the 1920s to the most modern.

Many of us know the name from our past, because “we had one at home!”. Nearly always good times, maybe fond memories of being a little child in the backseat for your first holiday abroad, or just the wonderful experience of being able to open your roof in nice weather.
Or possibly your first affordable car as a student, with memories of hot summers and bad winters with proper snow,  when you had to scrape the ice off the inside as well as outside… but we’ve all been there.

In addition, Citroën was also technically progressive, and the first with so many important innovations. The Traction Avant (front wheel drive) released in 1934 was futuristic. The DS with its hydraulic suspension and powered braking systems, as well as steering headlights were unique in the 1950s and 1960s.

In the field of commercial vehicles, Citroën also had a comprehensive line up, from the basic 2CV Van to the larger H-vans,  which were seen in the weekly markets and more recently converted to a mobile snack bar. Buses and cattle transport trucks have also been built over the past century.

In 2018, our beloved car brand, the one with “the double chevron” will be 100 years old! This should not go unnoticed! We have gathered enthusiastic volunteers from our ICCCR 2016 community. We are planning on celebrating this important centenary, on the 10, 11 & 12 August 2018. We want to organize a 3-day party for the Citroën owner, which will be a fantastic event for the whole family!

In short: a party with the whole family to celebrate Citröen’s birthday.
